Presentation by Alan DeMarche, given August 23, 2017 at the 16th International Radiance Workshop, Portland, Oregon.

This presentation showcased developments in our office’s modeling, simulation, and visualization workflows that resulted from integrating electric lighting and daylighting in architecturally complex projects. Increased material specificity, geometric detail, architectural finishes, and lighting color temperature can add realism and increase buy-in. It can also add real costs to our time (both human and machine) and bring with it the potential to derail constructive conversations by shifting the focus away from the topic of analysis. Through selective simulation and visualization methods, we have been able to add to the depth and breadth of our analyses while minimizing potential pitfalls and keeping our work product focused and analytically relevant.
